Allegations of racism and victimisation at Holy Cross High in Maitland

Cape Town - 7 September 2016

Allegations of language based discrimination rumoured to be happening at Holy Cross High in Maitland have emerged on social media.

The principal,Mr Fouche, claims that students implemented the punitive policy themselves more than 12 years and that it does not form part of the school’s code of conduct. When approached for comment yesterday,Fouche promised to send a full statement in writing on the matter, before 5pm yesterday. We followed up with the school today, and Mr Fouche claimed he had just emailed it to us.

As at 14:40pm we were not in receipt of the school’s statement.

Fouche stated that the punitive measures of fining students for using their mother tongue in other language classes have now been stopped.
